Green Stink Bug Present

scouted Oct. 7, 2024

Background
Soybeans were scouted at the R8 growth stage and southern green stink bugs were observed. Threshold was not surpassed, but on the verge.
Conclusion
This issue was confirmed by an NC State Extension Specialist as damage from green and brown stink bugs. Stink bugs have piercing mouth parts and feed on tender terminals, blooms, pods, and developing seeds within pods. In this environment, southern green stink bugs had not surpassed threshold. Stink bugs can be controlled with acephate and pyrethroid insecticides. Continued scouting throughout the field and along the edges is recommended as well.
