Soybeans were scouted at the V6 growth stage and stunted growth, foliar chlorosis, wilting, and dark brown discoloration of the roots were observed.
Conclusion
This issue was confirmed by the NC State Plant, Disease and Insect clinic to be injury from Rhizoctonia Root Rot. Wet or dry soil conditions earlier in the season could have contributed to the severity of symptoms. There are not options to remedy this issue this season but varietal selection and subsequent use of fungicide seed treatments at planting dates earlier than mid-May are warranted in following years.
