Soybeans were scouted at the R6 growth stage and wilt, dieback, and necrotic lesions along with vein discoloration were observed on leaves in widespread patches across the field.
Conclusion
This issue was confirmed by the NC State Plant, Disease and Insect clinic to be Soybean Vein Necrosis Virus (SVNV). Symptoms associated with SVNV can look similar to other soybean diseases such as brown spot, cercospora leaf blight, and even herbicide injury. Symptomology can include randomly distributed irregular yellow spots ranging in size, necrotic lesions, vein discoloration, and yellowing of the underside of leaves. Currently, there are no economically feasible remedial measures for SVNV.
