Millipede Present

- Background
- Soybeans were scouted at the V4 growth stage and a significant level of stand loss along with inconsistent emergence was observed. In this environment, soybeans were planted into a rye cover crop. When scouted, millipedes were present under the cover crop residue.
- Conclusion
- This injury was confirmed by an NC State Extension Specialist as damage from Millipedes. Millipedes are not a common pest in soybeans, however they can cause notable damage. Millipedes may feed below or above the soil surface. They will feed on leaves, stems, and seeds/seedlings. In this environment, millipedes were feeding on the seeds below the rye residue. Regularly continued scouting is recommended.
