- Soybeans were scouted at the R1 growth stage and chlorosis of lower leaves along with necrotic spots on the leaves were observed.
- Conclusion
- This issue was confirmed by an NC State Extension Specialist as Septoria Brown Spot. Symptoms associated with brown spot include irregular brown/necrotic patches of dead tissue on leaves and defoliation in severe cases. Brown spot causes small brown lesions that can look similar to Target Spot in early stages. Brown spot overwinters in crop residue, so if you have issues with this disease it is important to incorporate tillage practices to aid in rapid breakdown of crop residue.
